New Tools for Businesses in the Pinterest Community

New Tools for Businesses in the Pinterest Community Thousands of businesses have become part of our community, giving great ideas, content and inspiration to people on Pinterest. Whether it’s Anthropologie sharing awesome clothes, Whole Foods sharing tasty recipes, the Smithsonian sharing fascinating collections, or Amazon making products easy to pin, many of us have been inspired on Pinterest by businesses. We want to help more businesses provide great content on Pinterest and make it easy to pin from their websites. Today, we’re taking a first step toward that goal with some free tools and resources. Book: Marketing With Pinterest [Kindle Edition] New business terms We now have two sets of terms—one for people and one for businesses. The business terms help guide businesses on how to use Pinterest. They also enable us to separate the provisions meant for businesses from those meant for regular people. As a result, we updated our user terms to be half as long. We also took the opportunity to simplify the language as much as possible. Unfortunately, terms of use are one of those documents that requires a certain amount of legalese, so we’ve offered “translations” of these sections, too. Getting to know businesses better Whether you’re a publication, brand, designer, blogger, retailer, online merchant, non-profit organization, institution, or local business, we’d like to get to know you better so that we can provide the right tools and support to help you inspire people on Pinterest. If your organization is new to Pinterest, sign up on Pinterest for a business account. Existing accounts on Pinterest can be easily converted by following the steps on the business site. Book: Pinterest: The Ultimate Guide To Marketing Your Business With Pinterest Signing up on our business site allows you to specify your business name (instead of first name and last name) and go through an optimized new user flow to help you: Verify your website. The verification badge helps people identify high-quality sources of content and more easily find the business they want in search results. Add new buttons and widgets. Integrate the Pin It button, Follow button, Profile widget, or Board widget to get more engagement from pinners and traffic back your site. Access to upcoming features. Receive updates on future products and services that will provide more powerful ways of reaching and understanding your audience on Pinterest. New Resources: Case Studies, What Works, and more The Pinterest community is unique and we want to help businesses interact with people the right way. That’s why we’ve also published new case studies, best practices, and guides on the business site that can show you great ways to use Pinterest to inspire people. Case Studies. Jetsetter, Allrecipes, Etsy, Organized Interiors, and Petplan Insuranceshare metrics and describe how they successfully used Pinterest to increase customer reach, drive traffic to their sites, and engage their strongest advocates. 7 Solid Plugins For Creating Custom Forms With WordPress

A forms plugin with an easy-to-use interface can make the creation of custom forms virtually painless. Whereas form creation used to require HTML coding experience, now just about anybody can set up even the most complex, multi-part forms. The forms we’ve selected here are some of the major players that support powerful custom form builders within the WordPress dashboard. Gravity Forms You can’t talk about WordPress form building plugins without mentioning Gravity Forms. An all-time favorite plugin of WordPress professionals, Gravity Forms goes far beyond your simple contact form. The plugin has tons of free and commercial add-ons that make nearly anything possible, including the ability to create subscriptions, directories, polls, invoices with Freshbooks, integrations with MailChimp, aWeber, Constant Contact and much more. Ninja Forms The lite version of Ninja Forms is available in the WordPress plugin repository and includes an easy-to-use form builder, customized field options, entry management and tons of hooks for developers. Users who upgrade to Pro will be able to implement file uploads, front-end posts submissions, multi-part forms and the ability to save users’ progress. Subscribers receive excellent support with all requests answered within 12 hours or less. Formidable Forms Formidable Forms is another plugin that comes in both a lite and a pro version. Users can easily create forms with a simple drag-and-drop interface. It includes advanced capabilities for users to create posts, pages, and custom posts types with your forms, as well as the ability to manage and edit them from the front-end of your site. Formidable also integrates with reCAPTCHA and Akismet for Spam control. Breezing Forms Breezing Forms is a newer plugin that is unique in that there is no lite version. It boasts a surprising number of robust features for free, including multipage forms, powerful conditional fields without need for Javascript, AJAX file uploads with progress bars, and lots more. Breezing Forms has many of the features that you might normally expect from an enterprise-class forms building plugin. Use it to create simple contact forms, feedback forms, surveys, payment forms, calculations or complex forms. Form Maker Form Maker is available in a free version from the wordpress.org repository and also a commercial version. This plugin allows you to customize the colors, fonts, submit buttons and the size of the form elements. It also allows for custom CSS and Javascript. The form creator is integrated with the standard WordPress editor. The commercial version allows for unlimited fields and offers integration with Google Maps API. Contact Form Manager The Contact Form Manager has a broad appeal and has been downloaded more than 55,000 times with mostly 5 star ratings. It allows you to create multiple custom forms and place them on your site using shortcodes. The plugin includes the ability to send an auto-reply as well as redirect the user upon form submission. It supports all of the most common form elements, has built-in spam protection and essentially includes everything you might want in a simple webform. Visual Form Builder Visual Form Builder is a plugin designed to make the form creation process quick and easy so that the user has no need to edit any PHP, CSS, or HTML. You can add form fields with one click and reorder them via drag and drop. It includes a logic-based anti-SPAM system, confirmations messages that you can customize, the ability to manage form entries in the WordPress dashboard and multiple field layout options. One cool feature of the Visual Form Builder is the ability to duplicate forms with one click. You can also embed multiple forms on posts and pages. The plugin also has quite an extensive FAQ section for troubleshooting and customizing. Check it out and download it for free on WordPress.org. Source: WPMU

Facebook Fan Page Feature – Get Notifications

Facebook is rolling out their latest features to help page owners get their message out in front of their fans. By checking “Get Notifications” your fans will get a notification each time you post a new update to your page. See more in this updated article: Read More

Article: Facebook testing threaded comments feature on pages

Facebook testing threaded comments feature on pages Facebook is testing a new “threaded comments” feature that allows users to reply to specific comments on busy posts. Currently, comments to a posting are added at the bottom, even if they are specifically about one certain comment another Facebook user wrote. This could be especially handy on extremely busy Facebook pages hosted by celebrities or companies. You might not be able to see the proposed feature in action at this point. Facebook says it’s being tested on only 30 pages. Several comments appear below his posts. Those comments show the number of “Likes” they have received, but unlike the current comments feature, they also show how many replies they’ve received. Below the comment you can choose to “Like” or “Reply,” and if you click on the icon indicating the number of responses a comment has received, the thread expands to reveal the responses. Facebook told The Times it is testing the feature in certain locales. A Facebook spokeswoman indicated the feature is being tested on pages for specific individuals. No word on whether this feature will be rolled out to the rest of us, but if it is, the threaded comments feature could lead to more intelligent conversations on posts that receive hundreds and thousands of comments. [Update 1:36 p.m., Nov. 12: Facebook has now told The Times that the reply feature is being tested on both pages and individual users. Source: LA Times

Announcing Secret Boards for the Holidays!

Announcing Secret Boards for the Holidays! The holidays are a time for being with family, sharing great meals, and, of course, surprising your favorite people with a special gift.  That’s why we thought the holidays were a perfect time to test one of our most frequently-requested features: secret boards! Starting today, we’ll be gradually rolling out a test that enables anyone to create three secret boards. We hope that secret boards will make Pinterest even more useful. You can use secret boards to keep track of holiday gifts, plan a special event, or work on a project you aren’t yet ready to share with the rest of the world. You can keep your secret boards to yourself or invite family and friends to pin with you. To create a secret board from the web, visit your profile and scroll down to the bottom. Then, click Create a Secret Board. You can also click Add+ on the top right-hand corner of Pinterest to select Create Board and turn the Secret button to On. If you’re on your mobile device, first download the most recent version of Pinterest for iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet. Then, go to your profile, tap on the Boards tab, and scroll down to the bottom until you see a button that says Create a Secret Board. When you add a pin to a secret board, it won’t show up anywhere else on Pinterest—the only place you can see it is on your secret board.  Right now, you can’t make existing boards secret because others people may have already repinned from your board.  See this support article to learn more about secret boards. Finally, secret boards were not on the horizon when we last revised our Privacy Policy, so we’ve updated that document. While we were adding secret boards to the policy, we also took the opportunity to simplify the overall language of the policy and provide more examples.  We think the result is a much clearer and more understandable policy for the non-lawyers who use Pinterest.  In addition to this blog post, we’ll be sending an email notification about the privacy policy update.
